Chiropractic Care For Auto Accidents

Chiropractic Can Help You Recover From An Auto Accident

According to the Insurance Research Council, nearly 1/3 of all claimants injured in motor vehicle accidents (MVA’s) seek treatment from doctors of chiropractic. This is an impressive number given that the National Safety Council (NSC) has determined there to be more than 12 million auto injuries annually involving more than 20 million vehicles.

The reason individuals choose chiropractic care for auto accident injuries is simple – chiropractic care is exceptional in the treatment of soft tissue injuries, especially of the spine. Since the most common injuries associated with MVA’s are sprains and strains of the spinal muscles and ligaments, chiropractic is the proven treatment of choice.

Many studies have also found individuals sustaining auto accident injuries prefer chiropractic care for the treatment of their injuries. One such study evaluated 190 whiplash injury victims and found those who received chiropractic care reported treatment satisfaction of 100%.1

Whiplash Pain

Neck and back pain occurs when the force of an MVA knocks the musculoskeletal system out of proper alignment. In the case of whiplash, the force of rear-impact suddenly whips the cervical spine backward and forwards. The abrupt movement not only knocks the spine out of alignment but also places great strain on neck muscles which only causes further pain and stiffness. While prescription medication provides relief from pain, it is not an effective long-term pain management solution. Where medication alone fails to help patients gain mobility after a spine injury, chiropractic care can help.

Healing from Whiplash Injury

With proper care, many mild whiplash injuries heal within six to nine months. Whiplash is a unique condition that requires the expertise of a skilled health professional specially trained to work with these types of injuries. The most effective treatment for whiplash injuries is a combination of chiropractic care and rehabilitation of the soft tissues.

Lower Back Pain

It’s not uncommon for even the most minor of  Injuries to cause lower back pain. The spine is the most important part of the human anatomy. During an auto accident, the forces exerted upon the body tear at soft tissues and knock the spine out of alignment. The lower back supports much of the body when sitting in a car and thus receives the brute force of much of the damage. Even in small fender benders, low back pain is a symptom that something has been thrown off.  Chiropractic care and therapeutic exercise is an effective treatment for low back pain. While you concentrate on your recovery, regular adjustments can alleviate pain and ensure that everything heals correctly. Specific spinal care can restore comfort, movement, balance to the nervous system and provide pain relief to function toward healing.

Shoulder and Neck Pain

Shoulder and neck pain after an automobile accident typically results from injury to the muscles and supporting ligaments. Injury to the spinal cord, arms, heart, lungs and internal organs can also cause shoulder of neck pain following an Auto Accident Injury. There are many reasons why you could be experiencing pain due to the brachial plexus located in the shoulder. This complex center of nerves fees every part of your arms from the shoulder through your fingertips. If it becomes injured, pinching pain, numbness, weakness and other sensations may clue you into the fact that misalignment has taken place. Chiropractic care, along with massage, myofascial therapy and other forms of therapy can relieve the nerves of their stress.

After neck pain, headaches are the second most common complaint from those suffering from whiplash injury. While some headaches are actually the result of direct brain injury, most are related to injury of the muscles, ligaments and facet joints of the cervical spine, which refer pain to the head.

I had neck and back issues from an auto accident.  With regular care from Dr. Ciolkosz, I am active and pain free!  It’s the best decision I ever made for my health.

Anyone want to try a chiropractor?  The DRs are great.  I’ve been going since my car accident and must say I’m loving this route rather than a DR pumping my body with pain pills to mask the pain.
